Porcelain belongs to the ceramic category, and its durability is indexed by a PEI rating between 1-5. The higher the PEI rating the more durable. For example PEI Class 3 and above is suitable for both residential floors and walls. The PEI rating is assigned according to the results of numerous tests performed on the relevant tile. Porcelain is more durable than ceramic since it is much denser due to the different process of its manufacturing. Due to their durability the vast majority of porcelain tiles are perfect for both interior and exterior settings. Porcelain tiles have a great resistance to scratches. However it should be noted, any tile can eventually chip if a heavy object is dropped on it. Porcelain tiles are available at Groove Tile & Stone in a wide texture selection, such as real natural stone, marble and timber appearance. Offered at matte and polished finish types. Full body porcelain are coloured all the way through whilst glazed porcelain tiles are coloured only on their surface (with a white body). Easily cleaned with a damp mop. No sealing is required.
